In the current global economic landscape, “BRICS” has emerged as an important economic force representing five major emerging economies, comprising 43% of the world population, having 37% of the world GDP and 17% share in the world trade. We are happy to share with you that India has assumed the Chairmanship of BRICS Forum for 2016, and the Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank), being the nominated member development bank from India under the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism, has assumed the Presidency of the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism.

During India’s Chairmanship, Exim Bank has instituted the Exim Bank of India BRICS Economic Research Award, with the objective of encouraging and stimulating advanced research on economics related topics of relevance to the member nations of BRICS. 

The annual Award, comprises of a Citation and prize money of Indian Rupees 1.5 million (equivalent) (approximately USD 20,000) which would be supported by Exim Bank. The Award would serve to encourage scholars to undertake focused research studies on topics of contemporary relevance to BRICS. 

 The Award would accept as entries Doctoral Theses written by nationals of any of the five member nations of BRICS, who have been awarded a Doctorate or accepted for award of a Doctorate from any recognized nationally accredited University or academic institution globally, during the period January 2011 to December 2015.  The broad focus of the eligible theses could be International Economics, Trade, Development, and related aspects of Financing, which may also have particular relevance especially to BRICS nations/ member development banks of BRICS. The detailed guidelines of the Award and terms and conditions for application are attached herewith for ready reference, and are also available on the homepage of our website www.eximbankindia.in. Exim Bank envisages to organize the first Award function on the sidelines of the 8^th BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in India during 15-16 October 2016, during which the Award winner would be felicitated.
