A four member delegation led by the Hon’ble Minister for Labour and Employment Shri Narendra Singh Tomar visited  Melbourne to attend the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting held from 09 to 12 September. Besides the Hon’ble Minister, the delegation comprised of Ms. Gauri Kumar, Secretary(Labour), Shri Anup C. Pandey, Joint Secretary and Shri Nikunj Srivastava, PS to Hon’ble Minister.   

 Hindi Diwas was celebrated at the Consulate on Sunday, 14th September 2014 with active participation of the Indian community.   More than seventy persons were present in the event.  Sharing experiences in Hindi, reciting own Hindi poems, singing Hindi songs, and Hindi speeches by Indian community members and children were well received with applause.  Consul General Ms. Manika Jain gave a welcome address  and presented   Hindi learning materials procured from India to Mr. Frank Merlino, Principal of the Victorian School of Languages on this occasion.   Mr. Frank Merlino and Mr. Colin Avery, Principal of Rangebank Primary School [the only school imparting Hindi language in Victoria] also spoke in the event.  

 Spices Board of India and Tea Board of India participated in the Fine Food Australia held in Melbourne from 15 to 18 September.  According to the Spices Board of India, they have received good feed back from the participants in the Expo. 

 A 25-member delegation of Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce (IACC) headed by Shri C. Sarat Chandran, Director of IACC visited Melbourne on 16-17 September 2014.  They met with the representatives of the Victorian Employers Chambers of Commerce and Industry (VECCI), Pitcher Partners and Victorian Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI).  The delegation had a good interactive session with the Consul General Ms. Manika Jain at the Consulate on 17th September. 

 A 16-member delegation from Gujarat headed by Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation visited Melbourne on 17-18 September to promote Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit 2015.   A joint welcome session for the delegation was organized by the Consulate and the DSDBI.  The delegation had a roadshow on Vibrant Gujarat and meetings with officials of DSDBI, Austrade and members of Gujarati community.  

A business event was organized at the Consulate Hall on 25th September  coinciding with the Prime Minister’s launch of ‘Make in India” initiative.   An introduction was given by Consul General Ms Manika Jain  in the beginning where initiatives taken by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion(DIPP) were enumerated in brief to build up an understanding of ‘Make in India’ initiative.   Thereafter, the webcast of the launch held at Vigyan Bhavan was projected live to the audience.
